The People’s Climate March in Photos
Between 300,000 and 400,000 people marched through the streets of New York City on Sunday, calling for world leaders to make radical policy changes to address the climate change crisis.
Those numbers far exceeded expectations and forced organizers to ask marchers to break off from the march early because their numbers were overwhelming the capacity of the march route.
In addition, some marchers streamed down Manhattan streets that were not part of the designated route.
The NYC event – labeled “The People’s Climate March” – was part of a global mobilization that involved:
156 countries
2,640 events
1,574 partner organizations
2,097,372 people around the world signing a petition demanding bold action on climate change
550 busloads of marchers from nearly all 50 U.S. states for the NYC event
